Welcome to the Genealogical Society of Queensland (GSQ) Library Catalogue

Use the library catalogue to search the GSQ collection which covers books, serials, card indexes, microfilm, microfiche, CDs, digital documents, as well as online access to internet resources. It Includes:

  • A comprehensive collection of reference material on subjects covering history, heraldry, genealogical research, vital records, etc.
  • Available birth, marriage and death indexes (civil registration), together with some BMD registers prior to civil registration which are normally called Parish Registers
  • A wide range of census records, post office directories and electoral rolls
  • Immigration, convict and military records
  • Cemetery and burial records
  • An extensive collection of published family histories
  • Special collections of material in unpublished or unusual format.

GSQ has an extensive library of published reference material, on all aspects of genealogy and family history, collected over many years. Our catalogue covers Queensland and other Australian states, New Zealand and the Pacific, as well as extensive holdings for the United Kingdom, Europe, and other overseas countries.

A substantial collection of Queensland resources is held, many of which are unique to GSQ through our own projects, including Queensland cemetery and funeral directors records and indexes to south east Queensland Roman Catholic parish registers.

New resources are being added to the library all the time and lists of new acquisitions are published in our quarterly Journal Generation.  They are also available by selecting Lists under the GSQ logo above or the link to Newly Catalogued Items.

Use of the online catalogue enables members and other interested family historians to do their 'homework' before they visit us, and therefore single out those resources which will provide the most efficient use of their research time.

PLEASE KEEP CHECKING THE CATALOGUE REGULARLY AS RECORDS ARE CONTINUALLY BEING UPDATED MOST DAYS.  Please also report any issues you find so they can be rectified.

WORK IN PROGRESSWhilst all items held in the GSQ library collection are available to search here, please be aware that we are still working through updating the records to include more detailed information (when it is available) about each resource.  As part of this updating, we are putting in links to the item if it is available in digital form.  Indexing journal articles from the various journals we receive is also happening to enable you to locate some great articles that previously have been hidden away inside these journals.  Keep checking the catalogue as it is constantly being updated with more content and information and please report any issues you discover so they can be corrected.

Viewing GSQ Library Catalogue
If you are viewing the library catalogue from home, both members and non-members are able to add items to a Cart which can be printed or downloaded.  This will enable you to be prepared when you visit GSQ Resource Centre.

Searching GSQ Library Catalogue
A tip for searching the library catalogue is to search using the Advanced Search.  It will enable you to narrow down your search results to a certain collection e.g. book or journal article.

CDs
Should you wish to view a CD from the collection, ask one of the Library Assistants on duty for the plug in CD drive. This can be plugged into any of the GSQ Resource Centre computers however it is recommended to use Computer 15 to undertake this task, as it is preloaded with the viewers necessary to access the searching functionality for many of the CDs such as the Scottish Monumental Inscription series amongst others.

Borrowing
GSQ Library is NOT a lending library but it is something we are working towards offering to members going into the future.
